Khai Do - President

Born in Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Khai escaped from Vietnam in 1981 and first resettled in Charlotte, NC, then moved to Raleigh when he attended NC State University in 1988.

Passionate about the future of the Vietnamese American youths and community, Khai was involved in various cultural activities and community programs including the Ve Nguon and Ngan Phuong camps, Truc Xanh Vietnamese language school and the Vietnamese-American Association of Raleigh. Khai previously served on the Board of Directors of The Ve Nguon Foundation and is currently a volunteer teacher at the Vietnamese Martyrs Catholic school.

Khai lives with his wife and two young sons in Cary, NC.

Tho Nguyen - Vice President

Tho Nguyen grew up in Greensboro, NC and is an avid foodie, traveler and blogger. Tho holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from North Carolina State University and an MBA in International Business from England as an Ambassadorial Scholar from the Rotary Club.

Tho works in the information technology industry for over 18 years and has recently published a book Leaders and Innovators: How Data-Driven Organizations Are Winning with Analytics with all proceeds going to charity.

Tho and his wife live in Raleigh for over 20 years and have been very active in the community to preserve the Vietnamese culture and values for their daughter and the future generation.

Chanh Nguyen - Vice President

Born in Hue, VN, grew up in New York and gratuated with a BS in Computer Science from SUNY at Buffalo. After gratuation he had migrated to the Triangle NC area, and currently working as a Software Engineer for over 20 years.

Chanh and his family are members of the Hung Vuong Taekwondo & Viet Ngu family working to preserve the Vietnamese language and culture in their children. He had previously volunteered with the Van Hanh Vietnamese Language School, and Truc Xanh Vietnamese Language Classes in the late '90s to the early 2000s.

Chanh resides in Apex with his wife and 3 daughters ranging from elementary to high school

Ngoc Nguyen - Secretary

Ngoc Nguyen is a native of Greensboro, NC. She studied in Chapel Hill, Raleigh and Durham where she was active with various Asian student organizations and has been a long-standing member of UNC's Alumni Committee on Racial and Ethnic Diversity.

Ngoc has been employed with the State of North Carolina for over 12 years and currently manages contracts for the largest agency in the State.

She resides in Raleigh with her husband and two young sons. In her spare time, she enjoys volunteering, photography and island travel.

Hung Nguyen - Treasurer

After spending seven years in Tokyo (Japan) for his engineering degrees, Hung emigrated to Canada in 1978 and subsequently to US in 2007. He works in the field of telecommunications and lives in Cary with his wife. Both of them enjoy travel, photography and reading.

He has been the treasurer for a charitable organization in our area for the last several years and accepted the nomination to perform the same duty for VAAR as a small token of contribution to our great Vietnamese American community.

Thi Phan - Cultural Director

Thi Phan was born in Saigon, Viet Nam. He attended The Florida State University and moved to North Carolina in 1998 after graduation. Thi is an active member of The Van Hanh Temple Buddhist Youth Group and Hung Vuong Taekwondo School.

When not busy with work, Thi enjoys trail/mountain biking and water sport with his friends and family. Thi, his wife and two young daughters have been residents of Wake Forest since 2006.

Donna Nguyen - Social Coordinator

Donna was born and raised in Raleigh, NC. Since she was 15, she has been very involved in cultural events and organizations including traditional dance teams, Thieu Nhi Thanh The, and Vietnamese Student Association at North Carolina State University where she held several executive board positions over four years.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Polymer and Color Chemistry from NCSU. After graduation, she moved to Greensboro to work at Ecolab as a Chemist, where she innovates cleaning products for fast food restaurants.

Donna is passionate about staying connected to her Vietnamese roots and looks forward to continuing that journey through VAAR. In her free time, she likes to scope out delicious new foods and take in nature's beauty, including looking at stars.
